In a new post on Microsoft’s Learning Blog, Alex Payne, GM, Global Technical Learning at Microsoft Worldwide Learning stated that Microsoft will retire the following 3 certifications from use:

  • MCSA – Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate
  • MCSD – Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer
  • MCSE – Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert

According to the post, the certifications will officially be retired on the 30th of June 2020.

Changes in certifications were a long time coming

This piece of news should come as no surprise since Microsoft already started concentrating on training and certifications based on roles, it will retire all remaining certifications that are no longer necessary.

What will happen after certification retirement?

Customers that still want to get these certifications can do so as normal until the deadline. In fact, once they get them they will still be saved onto their transcript for a whole 2 years after retirement.

Microsoft stated that there won’t be any kind of Windows Server 2019 or SQL Server 2019 certifications. In fact, they stated that:

Since the certifications will retire, so will all the exams that were associated with them. These include:

Server 2019 and SQL Server 2019 content will be included in role-based certifications on an as-needed basis for certain job roles in Azure Apps & Infrastructure and Data & AI solution areas.
