Just a few hours after it was reported that users are now able to install the Google Chrome browser via the rebranded Windows Store aka the Microsoft Store, it seems that the app is now completely gone like it was never there in the first place.
- Easy migration: use the Opera assistant to transfer exiting data, such as bookmarks, passwords, etc.
- Optimize resource usage: your RAM memory is used more efficiently than Chrome does
- Enhanced privacy: free and unlimited VPN integrated
- No ads: built-in Ad Blocker speeds up loading of pages and protects against data-mining
- Download Opera
The installer seemed to be entirely official, and it was linking to Google’s other applications in the Microsoft Store for instance.
This was too good to be true
Many readers were suggesting that this would not last because this obviously violated Microsoft’s policies regarding applications with limited function. It seems that these users were right after all.
If you still don’t believe us and you want to download the app, you will receive an error message saying that “The thing that you are looking for is not here. We probably don’t have it, but just in case, try searching for it.”
Microsoft confirms it kicked out the installer
Microsoft confirmed that the mysterious disappearance was an intentional action, claiming that “We have removed the Google Chrome Installer App from Microsoft Store, as it violates our Microsoft Store policies.”
The company noted that the app did not offer any unique and distinct value and it also suggested Google to build another app targeted at the Microsoft Store that it is compliant with the Store’s policies. This obviously involves using the Edge rendering engine, so as a result, it is improbable to happen in this lifetime.
Microsoft probably has its own reasons for not allowing the Chrome Installer to enjoy more time in the Microsoft Store and these reasons probably go beyond the policy and simple rules. On the other hand, some might take the company’s action as a bit anti-consumer, but after all, it’s Microsoft choice.
