Microsoft Launches Bing Insider Program To Improve Its Search Engine

Microsoft has secretly launched its Bing Insider Program allowing users to get access to early builds, new features and upcoming fan events in return for feedback. The tech company is focusing on improving its search engine and needs user suggestions about the features that need to be improved or added to Bing.

The attention Bing is getting from Microsoft could be the company’s audacious reply to Google’s plans to destabilize Microsoft’s Office business by reeling in its business customers. Google has a clear purpose in mind: convincing 80% of Microsoft’s business clients to switch sides. Could Microsoft be planning to take the battle to the search engine field?

Microsoft apparently launched its Bing Insider Program in February but managed to keep its low profile up until recently. In order to be added to the list of Bing Insiders, users were invited to click on a link and take a 3-question survey. The respective link in no longer active, but Microsoft’s message remains clear:

The Redmond company has already added a series of improvements to its search engine. Bing Maps is now more accurate and will likely be further improved thanks to the new Bing Maps V8 control technology Microsoft has made available to developers.

If Microsoft wants to convince users that Bing is better than Google, it should also focus on refining Bing’s search algorithms. Sometimes Google provides better, more accurate results. Microsoft would also do well to improve Bing Street View: even hardcore Bing fans return to Google when they need navigation indications.
