If you’re a graphic designer, or just love drawing and taking notes on your new Surface Pro 4, you probably can’t even imagine it without a pen. Well Microsoft has some good news for you, as Patently Mobile reports, the company is working on the new, improved pen for Surface Pro 4.

The biggest improvement of Microsoft’s new patent is the ability to recharge via magnetic connection with Surface Pro 4. Surface Pro 4’s magnet served only as a ‘place to keep’ your stylus while carrying the device, but it may get a new functionality soon.

Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book let users to attach the Surface Pen to the side of the device, and it is indeed more elegant solution than the loop-sticker that was offered before. Although it’s better looking, it’s still not so secure, as the pen might get loose in the bag, or be knocked off.

Also, Microsoft will stick to magnet connection as a ‘place’ for Surface Pen, because in-body solution is not possible, as the pen is thicker than the device. And for the source of power, Microsoft will also probably stick to AAAA batteries.

Microsoft Shows Apple How to Do It?

Although the solution is very practical, it’s still not entirely clear why Microsoft decided to bring this charging options, as the AAAA batteries last from six months to even a year, so you won’t use the charging so often. However, some sources believe that Microsoft will introduce this feature just to show Apple the right solution for pen charging.

If you’re not familiar, Apple presented an option to charge the Apple Pencil by directly plugging it into the iPad Pro, which turned out to be a bizarre charging method, and Apple drew a lot of negative critics because of it.

The new version of Surface Pencil is still in the early works, and some people expect it to arrive with the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2, and these devices are not expected until the second half of 2016.
