Microsoft is finally doing something to repair one of the most important downsides of the Edge browser by making it available for the two most significant platforms, iOS and Android.

The software giant admitted that support for Android and iOS was one of the most popular requests by Edge users. If the company makes Edge available across multiple platforms, the browser will become a viable option for users who have a mix of devices.

Edge is already also available on Windows 10 Mobile, but the majority of mobile users are on Android and iOS. Edge’s rivals are already available on multiple platforms. Chrome, for example, works on Android, Windows, iOS, macOS, and Linux. As a quick reminder, Google is currently running a campaign to convince more Edge users to switch camps via the ‘Get on Chrome faster‘ pop-up. As a result, Microsoft didn’t waste any time and launched an attack on Android and iOS.

Microsoft Edge for iOS and Android will bring features such as Favorites, New Tab Page, Reading List, and Reading View across your PC and phone. No matter what device you have, the browser will work on all of them.

The coolest feature will be how Edge will continue to run on your PC, enabling you to open the page you are looking for on your PC immediately.

Edge will be available as a preview first

Microsoft will make the browser available as a preview and iOS users will be the first to get it. Edge will be distributed via Apple’s TestFlight service. It’s not yet sure when Edge will also land on Android, but it will happen soon according to Microsoft.

The preview will be limited to US English, but more languages and countries will receive support over time.
