The long-awaited Windows 10 Anniversary Update is expected to be released on July 29, although Microsoft has yet to officially confirm this.Assuming the date is right, and judging by the company’s past and current behavior when it comes to Windows 10 updates, the Anniversary Update code lockdown could come after July 12.
Shortly before the Anniversary Update, Microsoft locks down the Windows code as its engineer team is no longer allowed to implement major changes. Prior to the official launch, Microsoft allows only last-minute bug fixes and cuts down on new features.
For one, the tech giant has already started to use its year/month nomenclature for the last three builds. Secondly, last year’s Windows 10 version 1507 was locked down on July 15, just one day after Microsoft pushed the July Patch Tuesday update. With this, it’s easy to guess the Windows 10 Anniversary Update code will most likely be locked down after July 12, when the company rolls out the Patch Tuesday fixes.
Thae halting of Windows 10 build release is another clear sign. Last year, Microsoft announced this event and two days after, the company rolled out the final version of the OS. We expect the company to do the same for this year’s OS update. An argument in favor of this idea the new expiration date that Build 14366 has, rather than the expected 7/15/16.
Another confirmation of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update code lockdown is the release of simultaneous Mobile and PC builds. Actually, this is what Microsoft has done since March, as both PC and Mobile Insiders received the latest builds at the same time.
Speaking of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update release date, more evidence points towards a July 29 launch. Moreover, Microsoft has kickstarted the June Bug Bash, a program aiming at fixing all existing Windows 10 bugs and detecting other possible bugs not yet spotted by Insiders.
