Microsoft Acquires Solair To Improve Its Iot Services

Microsoft wants to improve its prospects in the realm of the Internet of Things, and with the high number of competitors in the space, this move won’t be easy. To help out, the software giant announced the acquisition of Solair, an IoT company based out of Italy.

The financial details surrounding this exciting acquisition have yet to be released. What we do know, however, is that Solair has been active since 2011 and the company uses Microsoft Azure to deliver its services to customers. Seeing as this is indeed the case, we expect Solair to integrate quite easily into Azure.

We’re not certain how Microsoft plans to use Solair services in the near future nor if the company will make any drastic changes to its overall business model. Nevertheless, we do know Microsoft is “excited about their technology and talent — and delighted to welcome them to the Microsoft team,” according to a report from the Microsoft Blog.

Companies such as Rancilio Group, the folks behind the espresso machines, and Minerva Omega Group have all taken advantage of what Solair brings to the table. This means Microsoft has these customers immediately and can easily introduce them to other key services the company has to offer.

Here’s what Sam George, Microsoft’s partner director for Azure IoT, had to say about the acquisition:

At the moment, Solair is quite big in the Japan. With its help, Microsoft could break into this market in a big way with its suite of IoT products and services. It won’t be easy by any means, but this acquisition is just one big step in staying ahead of the game because IoT is growing and soon will become a billion dollar business.

“Solair shares our ambition for helping customers harness their untapped data and create new intelligence with IoT, and this acquisition supports our strategy to deliver the most complete IoT offering for enterprises”.
