The software giant Microsoft has reportedly acquired the popular data migration startup, Mover. While other details of the acquisition are not made public, the deal will help make Office 365 easier to adopt for businesses.
The Canadian company Mover is a 7-year-old startup and offers services to move files from one server into Microsoft Office 365 cloud. Jeff Teper, the Corporate Vice President for Microsoft Office said the following in the blog post announcing the Aquisition:
How to recover your lost Microsoft Office password
Today, Mover supports migration from over a dozen cloud service providers — including Box, Dropbox, Egnyte, and Google Drive — into OneDrive and SharePoint, enabling seamless file collaboration across Microsoft 365 apps and services, including the Office apps and Microsoft Teams
How this will impact the Office 365 service?
As Microsoft explained in the blog post, the idea behind acquiring is to simplify and speed file migration to Microsoft 365. Mover can transfer files from multiple platforms including Google Drive, Dropbox, Box and Office 365.
Microsft can use the Mover’s technology to help its Office 365 customer switch from other cloud storage service to its productivity suite. This will also help the company ease the migration process between Office 365 and OneDrive file-sharing services as well as the SharePoint collaboration platform.
The acquisition adds to the migration tools offered by Microsoft and its partners such as FastTrack, Movere Inc etc. The company is aggressively trying to beef up its capabilities in the area.
Jeff Teper also said:
This should provide enough hints that Microsoft is trying to push its OneDrive service aggressively to the Windows 10 users as a one-stop solution to manage data backup and management on the cloud.
Together with Mover, we’ll continue to provide customers with fast and reliable migrations to the cloud, with best practices and security and more connectors to more source systems, ultimately making the move into Microsoft 365 as seamless and cost effective as possible,”
