In his Windows 10 package manager, Microsoft included a new update that will help users to uninstall unwanted software more easily.

  • In the Windows Package Manager, Microsoft launched a new Winget feature that will make life easier for most users.
  • The Winget feature is designed to help uninstall more than one application at once on Windows 10 devices.
  • The usual way of uninstalling apps from the Control Panel, will of course remain available.
  • Right now the Winget option is a preview and is not a functionality available for everyone.

The 0.3 Winget version that has been installed now, comes with a range of new features, especially the possibility to uninstall a Windows 10 app directly from the command line.

Previously, the Winget option helped users install, show, search applications from a library of popular tools, created by Microsoft of course.

Windows 10 uninstall Winget

As Microsoft states in a popular blog post, although this option is mostly used by Linux users, there is no reason though for Windows 10 users to not use it.

In order to gain access to this latest option for uninstalling apps, a user needs to make changes to the configuration file.

The file can be found in the Winget settings command and in here, the experimentalFeatures needs to be enabled to true. That is all.

After this feature is enabled, then you can use the winget list command line to see all the software installed on the device.

The command for uninstalling the desired app is:

winget uninstall [app name]

Of course, you can continue to use Control Panel to uninstall applications, as until now. This will remain, without a doubt, one of the most preferred ways of getting rid of unwanted apps.

In the case of wanting to uninstall more applications at once, then the Winget option is worth considering.
