Earlier this year, we had no hope of a flagship from LG. This was practically because the company opted for the LG V30S at the Mobile World Congress, an event that has groomed majority of the past premium brands. Two months onwards, LG Electronics has confirmed the name of its next flagship smartphone as ‘LG G7 ThinQ’, and it’s coming out real soon.
This is the first time the ThinQ brand has been applied to the G series, having introduced it to the LG V30S, and it is expected to have enhanced AI modes for scene recognition in its camera, extra voice commands for Google Assistant and pre-installed apps.
ThinQ is gradually becoming LG’s umbrella brand for Artificial Intelligence. It follows the rebranding of smart home appliances from the old SmartThinQ smart home appliances. LG, unlike other manufacturers, isn’t yet building its own smart assistant and, thus focuses on integrating AI into different features, such as the usual photography intelligence, smartphone and smart home controls.
Ha Jeong-wook, managing director of LG Electronics, said that the company has decided to find the answers to how a device can be more convenient to the user.
The company will most likely unveil the LG G7 ThinQ in a simultaneous launch at Metropolitan West in Manhattan, New York on the 2nd of May, and a public event on Yongsan Ip Park Mall in Seoul on the 3rd of May; given the 13-hour time difference between the two cities.
