Back in August, we informed you that Microsoft would change the manner in which it pushed security and reliability updates to Windows 7 and 8.1. The company has now pushed the first Monthly Update Rollup for Windows 7, which includes improvements and fixes from the previous KB3185278 update, as well as the patches brought by KB3192391, the latest Windows 7 cumulative update.

In other words, if you choose to install KB3192391, you’ll receive only the latest security patches. If you install the Monthly Update Rollup KB3185330, you will receive the latest security patches brought by KB3192391, as well as the improvements and fixes available from previous updates.

It is worth mentioning that if you use update management processes other than Windows Update, and automatically approve all Security updates classifications for deployment, both the Monthly Update Rollup KB3192391 and the KB3185330 will be deployed. As a result, you should review your update deployment rules and make sure that only the desired updates are actually installed on your computer.

You can install the Monthly Update Rollup KB3185330 via three sources:

  • Windows Update: when you turn on automatic updating, KB3185330 will be downloaded and installed automatically.
  • Microsoft Update Catalog: you can go to the Microsoft Update Catalog website and get the stand-alone package for KB3185330.
  • Microsoft Download Center:
