Jumia Pay, Africa’s largest e-commerce platform’s third-party payment solution was first announced back in 2016. It was said to offer a more convenient payment method for its users in the 23 countries the company operates in when rolled out fully. JumiaPay was first implemented in Jumia’s biggest market, Nigeria and is also live in Egypt. After many many months, seems like its Kenya’s time to get a piece of the action.

In a recent interview with Kenyan Wallstreet, Jumia Kenya Managing Director Sam Chappatte said Kenya is one of the three countries Jumia will pilot its third-party payment solution Jumia Pay which aims to provide a ‘more convenient’ payment method to its users “We will launch Jumia Pay in Kenya in the next couple of months…. It’s a payment platform, its a wallet…. We will reward customers for using Jumia Pay through cash backs.” said Mr. Chappatte.

Jumia Pay has a very simple yet crucial objective: go even further in providing a safe, a secure and convenient shopping experience to our customers, building trust along the way between us, our thousands of sellers and our millions of customers.

Mr. Chappatte also revealed that everyday products such as soap, flour are the platform’s largest category by volumes a lot of customer acquisition as well as repetition. A major advantage of the company has been the ability to solve the complex logistics problem that has been a major challenge for online platforms especially for players in the Kenyan market and Africa at large.
