Plenty of users that have installed the Windows 10 version 1909 have reported that ever since they got the update, they have been having File Explorer issues. This update contained a host of other issues that were more or less fixed along the way.

As for the bug itself, every time a user tried using the search bar, it would freeze entirely. Additionally, users cannot right-click the search box, which is necessary for when they try pasting whatever is on the clipboard.
It is suspected that this bug has something to do with a preview feature introduced in the last update.
For those of you that don’t know, this new feature allowed suggestions to appear in the search box as you would type, similar to Google’s suggestions.
Thus, a bad implementation of this new feature lead to the appearance of this bug.
Patch Tuesday will fix File Explorer search box freezing issues
Microsoft has already released a series of fixes for these bugs, and those that are part of the Windows Insider programs have already begun testing them out.
As far as the world-wide release goes, we should expect these updates to hit live somewhere in mid-January.
Microsoft stated in the release notes of Windows 10 build 19013 that:
Additionally, they went on and added in the release note for Windows 10 build 19536 that:
We fixed an issue where you could get into a state where it wasn’t possible to set focus to File Explorer’s search box in order to type your query
Thus, if you too are having these issues, you won’t have to wait any longer for a fix. Additionally, you can get these fixes sooner by enrolling in the Windows Insider’s Fast Ring.
We’ve updated the new File Explorer search experience to enable you to remove previous searches via an option if you right click the entry in the dropdown.
