itel mobile unveiled the latest addition to their S series lineup yesterday in Uganda by launching the battery-centric itel S17. The entry-level smartphone comes packed with a 5,000mAh battery and a 3 back camera setup.
My biggest drawbacks with itel phones have been the lack of more dedicated RAM to the devices and the S17 is no different, the phone comes in two versions; itel S17 with 1GB of RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage and itel S17 pro with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage.
Coming to the software department, the new itel S17 runs on the Android 11 Go edition and is powered by an octa-core processor. The screen size and display aren’t different from its predecessor itel S16 and feature a 6.6-inch IPS display with an HD+ resolution.
Let’s look at the key itel S17 specs, price, availability, and what has changed since last year’s model, shall we?
itel S17 Specifications
itel S17 Prices in Uganda
The new Itel S17 is priced at UGX305,000 for the lone 1GB RAM + 16GB storage model. The phone has been launched in 3 color options of Sky Blue, Multicolor Green, and Deep-Ocean Black variants.
Availability and Where to Buy It in Uganda
itel S17 will be available in Uganda from next week both online and offline at itel branded shops across the country. The bonus with all these Transsion devices is they have organized and optimized their distribution channels so well, and cases of lacking where to buy their smartphones aren’t common. So any shop you visit should be able to have the new S17 in stock for you.
itel S16 vs itel S17: What’s Changed Since Last year’s Models?
Outside of the increase in the model number to S17 and the new design elements such as waterdrop display, and colors options, there are only subtle changes this year.
Here are some of the most notable changes between last year’s itel S16 lineup and this year’s S17 family. Keep in mind that this is not every change, just the most notable ones.
Power: As expected for any top-of-the-line S series, the new itel S17 comes juiced up with a battery capacity of up to 5000mAh from the 4000mAh from the itel S16.
Performance: The Mediatek MT6580A chipset has been engineered for 3G smartphones and the S17 is no different. Both versions are presumably 3G phones and maybe they will unveil the 4G pro version, the same way they did in Nigeria last year with a different chipset. In terms of performance, don’t expect many upgrades from last year’s model but with the Andriod Go editions, there will be some notable changes and differences in overall performance.
Price: The base model of itel S16 currently costs UGX290,000 on Jumia and the new S17 base model of 1GB RAM and 32GB storage will retail at UGX305,000.
