There are a ton of subscription services to choose from when it comes to streaming TV content and some of these services are available to use for free with ad content or come with a mobile provider plan or internet service package. But keeping up with every offer or promotion gets to be a real hassle! AT&T offers streaming TV service packages that include live channels and on-demand content, but is AT&T TV free?

AT&T has recently combined both of their streaming live TV services under the newly rebranded DirectTV Stream series of service plans. While none of the packages are currently available without a paid subscription, these no-contract plans do not require you to have AT&T as your service provider.

Let’s be honest, none of us expected AT&T to just let you use their streaming TV service for free right? However, now we’re curious about the rebranded DirectTV Stream Plans. So, let’s do some digging to get a general overview of each plan, then we’ll check out which smart home devices are compatible with Direct TV Stream now that they’ve changed everything up!

DirectTV Streaming Packages

DirectTV Stream packages are organized in much the same way standard cable tv plans are, with each plan offering certain standard channels, DVR storage, and On-Demand streaming content. Each plan level offers different options and benefits, as well as the ability to select premium channels like HBO or Starz for an additional fee. In the next sections, we’re focusing on what each plan offers in terms of channels, add-ons, and exclusive features.

Premium Channel Add-Ons: Monthly Costs:

HBO Max: $14.99/mo

Showtime: $11.00/mo

Cinemax: $11.00/mo

Starz: $11.00/mo

Epix: $6.00/mo

What Devices Can I Use To Watch Direct TV Streams?

Even though it’s not free, Direct TV Stream can be accessed using your internet browser to log in and stream content, or it can be accessed using the Direct TV Stream App. You can find the app on the play store for your device, or you can download the app directly from the Directv website when you sign up for your service. The streaming service currently supports the use of up to three devices at a time to stream content, but there is no limit to how many devices you can connect.

DirectTV Stream is available on both Android and Apple mobile devices, as well as many smart home streaming devices. We’ve provided a general list of supported devices for you below:

DirectTV Stream also has a dedicated content streaming device, but it is not included in the monthly cost of any of the subscription plans. This device is available to purchase for a one-time price of  $129.00, or to select DirectTV customers under a 2-Year Contract for a lower fee determined by the provider.
