We’ve all been there – you misplaced your phone and now you can’t find it. For those of us with iPhones, we can simply use the Find My app to help us locate our lost apple devices. Unfortunately, Find My sometimes doesn’t work.
If your iPhone isn’t showing up in your Find My app, you can try some of the following to fix it:
- Enable Find MyCheck iCloudTurn on Location ServicesFix Date and TimeReset Cellular ServiceReset iPhone
Below, we’ll go through and explain each of these solutions. To learn how to fix your Find My, read on!
Enable Find My In Your iPhone’s Settings
The first place you should look to fix your Find My issue is in the Settings app. If Find My isn’t enabled in the first place, you won’t be able to see your phone in it.
Once you go into Settings:
- Tap your Apple ID cardTap Find MyTurn Find My “On”Tap Enable Offline Finding and Send Last Location
If Find My was previously off, you should see your iPhone listed in Find My now. If not, keep reading for other solutions.
Check Your iCloud Account
Find My tracks your iPhone using your phone’s iCloud account. If your iCloud account isn’t logged in on your phone, you won’t see it in your Find My.
To check your iCloud account, do the following:
- Go to SettingsTap your Apple ID cardCheck the email currently logged into your phone
If the email on your phone’s iCloud is different from the one you’re checking in Find My, you can log out and log back in with the correct iCloud email in Settings.
Make sure you remember your Apple ID and password to log in. If you don’t, you can tap “Forgot Password,” which will send you an email to reset your iCloud password.
Once your password is reset, log in with the correct information to get your iPhone back in your Find My app.
Turn On Location Services
Obviously, Find My works thanks to location services. Without GPS tracking, Find My wouldn’t work in addition to many other modern features on your iPhone.
If your location services are turned off, Find My won’t be able to track your phone’s location.
To check your location services and turn them on, do the following:
- Go to SettingsTap PrivacyTap Location Services and toggle it on
If location services are already turned on, you may have another issue preventing your phone from being found on Find My.
However, you can try toggling location services off and on again to see if that does the trick.
Fix Time Settings On Your iPhone
Though you wouldn’t think date and time could affect Find My, they can.
For Find My to have the best chance of working properly, you should make sure that your date and time are set automatically.
Once you’re in Settings:
- Tap GeneralTap Date & TimeToggle Set Automatically on
This will ensure your iPhone’s date and time is always accurate, even if it crosses through a time zone.
Reset Your Cellular Service
Sometimes, Find My may struggle to find your iPhone due to poor or glitched cellular service. A simple reset may be all it needs to get it back on track.
The easiest way to reset your cellular service is by putting your iPhone on airplane mode for a few minutes. This will disconnect your phone from its cellular service and give it a chance to reset and reconnect.
After about a minute, take your phone off airplane mode and let it reconnect back to cellular service. Then, check the Find My app to see if your iPhone can be seen again.
Reset Your Device
If resetting your cellular service doesn’t do it, resetting your device might.
Simply turn your device off, leave it off for a few minutes, then power it back on.
Phones that experience frequent glitches may need more regular resetting. Most technology experts say you can reset your phone at least once per week without issue.
iPhones with many glitches may have something more serious going on, such as a virus or damaged hardware. Bring it to your local Apple store for a full evaluation if resetting doesn’t fix the issue.
Conclusion
If your iPhone can’t be found in Find My, don’t be too discouraged. You should be able to get it back up and running using one of these above solutions.
After trying the above solutions to no avail, you should schedule an appointment at the Genius bar at your local Apple store so they can take a closer look.
Remember: Find My is often the most important tool to find your lost phone, so make solving this problem a priority.
