Intel S Prototype Dual Display Windows 10 Laptop Is Awesome

Foldable dual-screen devices could be the next big thing. A foldable dual-screen device could be a 2-in-1 phone and tablet or a laptop with two displays. Dual-display laptops have come to the forefront during Computex 2018 with ASUS showcasing the Precog. That was partly inspired by the Tiger Rapids dual-screen laptop prototype that Intel also showed at Computex 2018.

Intel has developed Tiger Rapids as a prototype dual-screen laptop only. Even though Tiger Rapids is seemingly a finished product, Intel does not intend to launch it. Intel showcased Tiger Rapids at Computex 2018 primarily as a reference design for other companies to follow for their own laptops.

The Tiger Rapids displayed at Computex includes a left 7.9-inch LCD display and a right electronic paper display. The EPD panel doubles as both a notepad you can scribble on with a digital pen and a keyboard. Tiger Rapids users can switch between notepad and keyboard modes. Intel has also developed another dual-display prototype that was not showcased at Computex. That dual-display laptop has a secondary monitor so that the laptop can display content across two screens simultaneously. Again, however, that device might only be a prototype and not something Intel intends to launch. Nevertheless, as Intel already have a prototype for a laptop with two monitors, it is only a matter of time before similar dual-screen laptops from other companies become widely available.

Lenovo has already announced its very own equivalent of the Tiger Rapids. The Yoga Book 2 unveiled during Computex is a laptop with dual displays. The Yoga Book 2’s secondary display panel displays its on-screen keyboard much the same as Tiger Rapids.

The Precog laptop ASUS unveiled at Computex is more comparable to Intel’s other dual-screen prototype with two VDUs. Precog users can utilize a separate keyboard with that laptop so that you can get a more genuine dual-monitor setup. Without a separate keyboard, the Precog includes an on-screen keyboard section on its secondary display.

Aside from Lenovo and ASUS, it is widely speculated that Microsoft also has a dual-display device in the pipeline as highlighted with numerous patents. The rumor mill suggests that Microsoft’s foldable mobile, otherwise codenamed Andromeda, might be a Surface Phone. So Andromeda would probably be a foldable 2-in-1 phone and tablet instead of dual-display laptop.

So there could be a few alternative types of foldable mobile devices with two displays. Dual-display mobile devices will come in different shapes and sizes. Computex 2018 highlights that dual-screen laptops might be the closest foldable mobile device to becoming widely available.
